Who this is for

Stay: Anonymous Chat (package app.stay.chat) is an 18+ stranger-chat app. This policy describes what we collect, why, and what you can ask us to delete.

Questions: legal@stayanon.app. Child-safety reports: safety@stayanon.app.

What we collect

Nickname, optional bio, optional gender and country, date of birth used to compute that you are 18 or older, and the time that check passed. We do not require a real name, email, or phone number to use Stay.

A device key derived from your phone’s Android ID or iOS vendor identifier. We store only a hash of that key so the same phone can recover friends and chats after a reinstall. We do not use your IP address as an account identifier.

Session tokens (a short-lived access token and a hashed refresh token), optional Google account identifier if you choose Continue with Google, and an optional push token so we can notify you about friend messages.

Chat text, friend and block lists, reports you send, and photos or videos you upload (including whether a photo is one-time and whether it is blurred).

If you buy Stay+, the Play purchase token, product id, plan, and expiry so we can unlock filters. Play processes the payment. We do not see your full card number.

Automated chats

When few people are searching, Stay may connect you with an automated account so the queue is not empty. Those accounts are presented like other people in the app.

Messages in those chats are sent to a contracted language-model service to generate a reply. We do not sell that text as an advertising profile.

Why we use it

To run matching, chat, friends, Stay+, and safety (report, block, age gate).

To keep your account on the same phone after a reinstall, and to restore it across phones only if you link Google.

To meet Play Store child-safety and record-keeping duties when you report sexual content involving minors.

Who else sees it

The person you are chatting with sees your nickname, bio, online state, and the lines or media you send. They do not see your date of birth. Faces stay blurred in a temporary chat until you both add friend.

Infrastructure we hire (database, object storage, push, payments, and the language-model provider for automated chats) processes data only to run Stay.

We disclose data if required by law or to report child sexual abuse material to NCMEC or a local authority.

How long we keep it

Friend chats and the device-key bind stay until you ask us to delete the account or you start over on that phone.

Temporary chats are closed when you skip or disconnect. Media marked one-time is expired after the first view window.

Reports and blocks are kept so we can stop rematches and investigate abuse.

Your choices

Email legal@stayanon.app from the address on a linked Google account, or include your nickname and approximate signup date, to request a copy of your data.

Delete account in You schedules removal: your data stays for 30 days so you can cancel by opening Stay again on the same phone. After 30 days it is permanently deleted.

You can turn off photo blur for friend chats in You. You can block or report in the chat menu.

Children

Stay is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly create accounts for children. If we learn an account belongs to a minor, we delete it and report illegal sexual content involving minors.

Changes

We will update this page and the date at the top when the policy changes. Last updated 23 August 2026.
